Transform your Mudroom into a Valleys Human Design Environment
The mudroom is a space in the back of the home, usually near the garage or rear entrance. We often find the home laundry set up in this space.
Where your entrance acts like the front palace to your home, energetically influencing the flow of chi that enters your dwelling, the back entrance or mudroom acts like the sitting palace of your home.
Any space in your home can be designed to set up to suit your Environment Variable in Human Design — even the mudroom.
You may even notice that you sometimes enter spaces that you just love; what is it you like about them? Have you ever walked into a gorgeous laundry room, pristine bathroom, or luxe cooking space that you adored? What parts made you feel good?
Building your Environment spatial awareness can happen in every room of the home. Let’s look at a few things to watch for or play with in your mudroom:
Pet Station
So many Valleys People have a special connection with their pets — their familiar! Whether you’re a dog person or a cat person — or something else! — consider how you can have a special space for your pet in the mudroom. Whether your cat’s litterbox has a special space here, of if you built in a dogwashing station, this is a great space to add an element that benefits your furry friends.
Tiled or durable flooring
Valleys People need to be grounded, and I always like to encourage them to give their floors a moment to keep this at top of mind. Whether you’re adding heated tiles or exploring durable and comfortable materials that can withstand a little wear-and-tear, select your materials while keeping in mind how they’ll feel on your feet.
Sliding Barn Door
Valleys People love good flow and need their spaces set out in a way where things can flow and spill into each other effortlessly. A sliding barn door or pocket door is a great feature to use in your home when it comes to saving space, creating style, and encouraging flow and movement throughout your space. The mudroom is a perfect place to experiment with this!
Shoe & Closet Storage
Since we know Valleys People need to prioritize feeling grounded, proper footcare is another fun area to experiment with. Whether you have a hearty shoe collection or like to separate your shoes for the seasons, build custom shoe and closet space into your mudroom through built-in cubbies, cupboards, drawers and closets.
Smart Technology & Charging Station
Integrate smart systems into your space for greater control over your lighting, temperature, or even security. The mudroom is often close to the back entrance and makes for a great space to install a security system or control the heat and cooling in your entire home. I also recommend putting in a charging station for your devices in this room so you develop a ritual of dropping off your tech when you come home and never having to search for a charger again.
Integrated Benches & Cushions
Bringing in comfortable seating for putting on or removing shoes, with storage underneath is a great addition to any Valleys space. Add comfortable cushions on your benches for added comfort and style, and to encourage you to sit down and get grounded before leaving home.
