Transform your Mudroom into a Mountains Human Design Environment

The mudroom is a space in the back of the home, usually near the garage or rear entrance. We often find the home laundry set up in this space.

Where your entrance acts like the front palace to your home, energetically influencing the flow of chi that enters your dwelling, the back entrance or mudroom acts like the sitting palace of your home.

Any space in your home can be designed to set up to suit your Environment Variable in Human Design — even the mudroom.

You may even notice that you sometimes enter spaces that you just love; what is it you like about them? Have you ever walked into a gorgeous laundry room, pristine bathroom, or luxe cooking space that you adored? What parts made you feel good?

Building your Environment spatial awareness can happen in every room of the home. Let’s look at a few things to watch for or play with in your mudroom:

Hooks & Racks

It’s great for a Mountains Person to get things up off the floor, rather than have piles of things interfering with the flow of chi in your space. Ample hooks for coats, bags, and hats, helps keep everything easily accessible — and elevated up off the floor.

Durable Flooring

For a no-stress-mess, try waterproof and easy-to-clean flooring materials like tile, vinyl, or laminate. Mountains People are sensitive to being dragged down, and going super low-maintenance on the flooring materials is an easy way to not be bogged down by some of the things beneath you — like what’s beneath your feet! Don’t overlook the flooring as it’s still an important feature. It’s just more important for you to draw your eye up rather than down.

Have fun with your lighting

Since Mountains People resonate to elevated spaces, sometimes with a touch of a bougie atmosphere, using bright, functional lighting, such as recessed lights, pendant fixtures, or lights on a dimmer will help illuminate the space the way you like while drawing your eye up.

Sliding Barn Door

Forget those regular ol’ doors you’re used to! Using a sliding barn door creates a stylish entrance to your mudroom that not only saves space but also adds character. You can also try a pocket door, but there’s something about a grand sliding barn door that makes you go oooh ahhh. These are exactly the kinds of extra touches that can really upgrade a space.

Try a wall-mounted drying rack

This is perfect for drying wet clothes or gear without taking up floor space! Mountains People do best to keep their floors clear and clean so that clutter doesn’t trip up the flow of their space. Building as much into the walls as you can creates a cave and mountain-like atmosphere, using up the space you have and getting creative with nooks and mounts.

Don’t overlook ventilation

Since you’re doing laundry and washing things in this space, things can become humid and stuffy if you aren’t careful. These are not things that the Mountains Person wants, especially since you resonate to open spaces where the wind blows freely! Windows or vents are great to use in this space to allow fresh air and reduce trapped humidity.
