How to set up a Mountains Dining Space

The Kitchen and Dining Room are often the heart of the home, and an area when you are likely to spend a fair bit of time.

Your Environment is very important when it comes to your nourishment and the things you consume, and setting up your body so it resonates with the space around it will prime your body for high quality nourishment.

If we’re not in an environment that resonates with us, there is likely nothing available to ingest and consume. While this extends beyond just what we put in our mouth, it also definitely includes what we eat.

Remember this is not an exhaustive list of every way you could set up your dining space — but a collection of ideas to get you thinking differently about your space. See how many of these you’re already doing!

Keep the counters clear

Be sure not to clutter up your kitchen counters or surfaces, but select a few essential items to elevate the space and let your sense of style exude. If you can give items their own home so you always know where they are, you’ll find you’re able to stay on top of this room’s cleanliness more easily, rather than keeping everything out on your counters.

Try a great feature light

If you’re dining room set up has a light above the dining table, pick an interesting light fixture to act as the focal point of the room, and draw the eye upward. Think a brass or matt black sputnik light, or a dramatic long-limbed light that acts like an art piece.

Try upper cabinets

Upper cabinets sometimes stop before they reach the ceiling; this can collect dust, and lower the look of the space. By flushing your upper cabinets to the ceiling, you prevent dust form collecting on the exterior, and draw the eye upward, creating the optical illusion that the ceilings are taller than they are.

Play with a minimal aesthetic

Maybe that means using a lot of blond wood to create a minimal aesthetic, or maybe that means designing a classic white kitchen. Consider bringing in clean lines and a streamlined look into your kitchen and dining space.

What will take it to the next level?

Is it an incredible slab of stone for your backsplash and counter tops? Is it that brass pot-filler behind the stove that would just make things so much easier? Is it that stunning chandelier you saw in Architectural Digest? Is it a cute drink fridge? If it seems like someone might think it’s too much, it’s likely exactly what you need.

Don’t be afraid of white

Nothing brightens up a space and creates the sense of spaciousness and breathability than using the colour white. If your kitchen is dingy and dark, brightening up the space with paint is a quick and inexpensive way to freshen things up on a budget. Just be sure to do your research depending on what you decide to DIY.

Try a pot rack

Creating an interesting feature in the headspace of the kitchen and dining space is a great way to create visual stimulation in the air space. Try a luxurious pot rack above your Kitchen island, to hang your collection of brass pots and pans that are so luxe they’re worthy of being displayed.

Toss or donate damaged dinnerware

Chipped glass? Odd collection of plates and bowls? Donate or toss your damaged items, and try a fresh set that you enjoy using to create a feel-good dining experience. Broken items create stagnant yin chi that can diminish the feeling within the space and the meals you consume.
