Transform your Mudroom into a Caves Human Design Environment

The mudroom is a space in the back of the home, usually near the garage or rear entrance. We often find the home laundry set up in this space.

Where your entrance acts like the front palace to your home, energetically influencing the flow of chi that enters your dwelling, the back entrance or mudroom acts like the sitting palace of your home.

Any space in your home can be designed to set up to suit your Environment Variable in Human Design — even the mudroom.

You may even notice that you sometimes enter spaces that you just love; what is it you like about them? Have you ever walked into a gorgeous laundry room, pristine bathroom, or luxe cooking space that you adored? What parts made you feel good?

Building your Environment spatial awareness can happen in every room of the home. Let’s look at a few things to watch for or play with in your mudroom:

Make it dark and cozy

Mudrooms are typically smaller spaces, and small spaces are the perfect opportunity to be bold with dark colour. Consider selecting a rich colour to use on the walls and ceiling, creating a cave-like atmosphere by continuing the colour from the walls to the ceiling. Explore natural colours like deep emerald, spicy cinnamon, or warm chocolatey brown to emphasize a cave-like atmosphere.

Kickplate lighting

One of the things I’m loving in our current home is the task lighting in the wet rooms, like bathrooms, kitchen and mudroom. When you walk into the space, your movement triggers light to come on. I love this for Caves People, especially because the lighting is low and glowy — ideal for Caves People to feel tucked in, cozy and held.

Safe detergents and soaps

Whatever your preference is, gather your safe washing materials and store them in the mudroom. Depending on your lifestyle, safe soaps may mean cold-water detergents, fragrance-free soaps, or a special brand you like. Keep your cupboards stored and well-stocked, creating a safe-prepared space for Caves People while they’re doing laundry. You may even want to put your soaps in fancy containers to make things cute!

Close the doors to the space

Mudrooms inherently have multiple doors as they are usually connecting an outdoor space to the living space. Caves People thrive where there is one entrance to a space, so the nature of the mudroom may not be ideal for Caves People. A way to combat this energy is to ensure the doors to the mudroom are always closed, only opening them once you’re using or entering the space. This creates an additional safe barrier between the outdoor space and inside your home. If you prefer to have the mudroom door open so you can see the outer door to feel safe, always listen to your body and do what feels right for you personally.

Try a gorgeous stone

Whether you are using a great stone tile to adorn the floors, backsplash, or use on the counter above the washing machine and dryer, bringing in stone elements are great ideas to try in any space for a Caves or Mountains Person. Remember, Caves and Mountains transfer to each other, and learning more about your Mountains tendencies can help you explore regulation practices that suit you.

Cubbies for bags and shoes

I love built-in cubbies in the mudroom — one for each person in the home to hang their jacket and tuck in their shoes or boots. I love this for Caves Kids, especially because they can hang up their backpacks after school and feel a sense of autonomy over transitioning themselves to and from the home. This is also a great spot to build a bench to sit and put on your shoes while having your back protected.
