How to create a Caves Human Design Environment Bedroom
In Human Design lore, the bedroom is very important. There is an intimidating parable about “sleeping in your own aura” that makes every person question how much they like sleeping with someone… or by themselves.
It brings up questions about sex, sleep, relationship dynamics, societal pressures, personal health, and more. So while you’re contemplating your sleep quality and unconscious life, check out these ideas when it comes to setting up a sleeping space that resonates with you.
These suggestions are not a strict bible to follow, but a starting point to get you thinking differently about your sleep space.
Plus — you may have a unique sleeping situation! These tips and ideas are meant to inspire new ways to think about the room you sleep in. Trust what you’re drawn to trying, and steer clear from what doesn’t resonate. Have fun!

Close the curtains at bedtime
And if you have a closet, an ensuite, or multiple doors in the room, be sure to close them all up tight, too! When you tuck in to sleep, secure all the entry points to the space.
Make sure it’s dark
Black-out curtains are a cave delight! You can have sunshine during the day of course, but when we’re using the bedroom for sleep, ensure you’ve got some quality darkness. (Caves Kids may like a nightlight to feel safe!)
Wind down with a fire
The sound of a crackling fire and the glow of it’s light is reminiscent of firelight in the cave. Consider a fireplace in the bedroom if your lifestyle and home can accommodate it, or try relaxing with a fire on a screen, or listening to fire crackling on a speaker at bedtime.
Try weighted blankets
A Caves body is going to need to prioritize safety and basic comforts. Experimenting with a weighted blanket can help soothe the system so it feels held, safe and calm, helping drift to sleep. A cuddle blanket with a good weight, or body pillow might also do the trick!
Watch your feet at bedtime
When in your Cave be sure you can always see the door, but avoid pointing your feet toward or out the door when you’re asleep. This is called the mortuary or coffin position in feng shui, as it resembles coming out feet first in the morgue where dead bodies are stored. It is not an auspicious position to sleep in.
Keep the Cave cool
The Cave is typically a cooler temperature, a reprieve from the heat. It’s out of the sunlight. Try sleeping in a cool room at night, or that your general sleeping environment is a comfortable temperature for you.
Invest in a good mattress
Protect that back! What is your mattress preference? Do you need something firm? Soft? Breathable? Consider what your requirements are for your mattress and comfort levels, and prioritize this purchase in your bedroom plans.
