The Mystery of Narcolepsy — A Real Human Design Case Study

What happens when a body moves between waking and dreaming beyond its control?

A narcolepsy case study opens an investigation into sleep, sensory perception, and the shifting boundaries between the waking and dreaming worlds. In this episode of What Is My Body Saying, I explore the Human Design Variables of an anonymous participant with the pseudonym Red Crow.

About this Case Study

Red Crow submitted narcolepsy, along with a history of hypothyroidism and migraines. With limited information to work from, I open their Human Design chart and begin exploring what questions emerge around sleep, perception, and the conditions surrounding their body.

As I investigate the experience of narcolepsy, including sleep attacks and cataplexy, Inner Vision Cognition becomes an important thread. What might we explore about this person’s relationship with internal imagery, dreams, and the movement between different states of awareness?

Red Crow’s receptive mind, Appetite Determination, and Mountains Environment bring further questions into the investigation. I consider simplicity in nourishment, the support available through their surroundings, and what it might mean to receive information without directing or controlling when it arrives.

Along the way, an unexpected shamanic thread begins to emerge. The symbolism of the crow and a stone known as Shaman’s Dreamstone, or Dream Quartz, draw the investigation toward dreaming, inner journeys, and a relationship with the unseen.

These symbolic associations offer another way into the questions raised by the episode. The investigation remains open: what else might we notice about this person’s experience when we make room for a different perspective?

Variables examined

  • Determination: Appetite

  • Environment: Mountains

  • Body’s Inner Sense (Cognition): Inner Vision

  • Body’s Outer Sense: Touch

Inside this Case Study

  • An exploration of narcolepsy, sleep attacks, cataplexy, and the shifting boundaries between sleep and wakefulness

  • How Inner Vision Cognition brings dreams, imagery, and internal perception into the investigation

  • What Red Crow’s receptive mind invites us to consider about receiving information and the pressure to control it

  • Why Appetite Determination brings simplicity in nourishment into the conversation

  • How Mountains Environment raises questions about the surroundings and support available to this particular body

  • Why the symbolism of the crow and Shaman’s Dreamstone enters the investigation

  • How a shamanic perspective introduces questions about dreaming, inner journeys, and the unseen

  • What we can explore with limited information, while leaving room for the participant’s own experience
