Debbie Rosenfelt on Grieving The World We Knew

What happens when the world we recognize starts to feel unfamiliar?

Advanced Certified Grief Recovery Specialist Debbie Rosenfelt joins me to explore personal loss, collective grief, and the feelings that surface when we don’t know what comes next. Through her experiences of motherhood, chaplaincy, and Human Design, we consider how to make room for feeling — and how to be present for one another through something we cannot fix.

About this conversation

We can grieve someone we love, a relationship, or a familiar way of life. Sometimes, we begin grieving a loss we anticipate before it has happened. Speaking from opposite sides of the Canada–US border, Debbie Rosenfelt and I explore the uncertainty of a changing world and the balance between staying informed and becoming overwhelmed.

After 27 years in corporate finance, Debbie’s life changed profoundly following the death of her son, Kenny. Her path eventually led her into chaplaincy with Support Seven, supporting people in the immediate aftermath of traumatic events. Today, she works as a grief companion and hosts the Elevated Embodiment podcast.

In this InSight, we enter the world of someone whose work has brought her close to loss. Debbie shares her experience of growing up being told not to feel, learning to make room for emotion, and recognizing when she needed to step away from emergency calls.

We also explore her experience as a 3/5 Emotional Manifestor through the language of Human Design Variables: Low Sound Determination, Feeling Cognition, and Mountains Environment. Our conversation considers sensitivity, changing daily rhythms, the need for breathing room, and what Manifestor peace feels like to her.

Throughout, we return to the human acts of care that help someone through the next moment. Listening. Offering water or food. Asking who we can call. How might our relationship with grief change the way we show up for each other?
